Both the Dashboard of Economic Indicators and Voices & Choices identified the importance of preparing our region’s residents for the careers of the 21st century. While few employers continue to offer “a job for life,” it is vital that our residents have access to the education and training needed so that they are “employable for life.”
The partners of Advance Northeast Ohio are working to identify regional opportunities to provide educational excellence and improved workforce development programs.
The partners are pursuing two main strategies to address the region’s Talent Development priority:
- Prepare residents for present and future jobs
- Connect employers to qualified talent
Active Regional Talent Initiatives Include:
- Entrepreneurship education in liberal arts colleges – Morgan and Kauffman foundations
- Access to regional internship opportunities through NEOIntern.net organized by NOCHE
- Encourage more high school and college students to consider careers in manufacturing through Dream It! Do It! Campaign – MAGNET
- Expand regional literacy program – The Literacy Cooperative
- Increase awareness of employment opportunities in key industries via NEOTechJobs.org and JobMagnet.org
- Generate a new strategy and an action plan to tackle the region’s educational challenges through a leadership effort called Education Works
- Improve efficiency and effectiveness of region’s state universities through the recommendations of the Northeast Ohio Universities Collaboration & Innovation Study Commission
