Building a Green Future
Categories:
There are several efforts throughout Northeast Ohio to make sure the region is at the center of next wave of innovation and opportunity in the world of advanced energy -- sometimes called Green Energy. As reported by the Plain Dealer here:
Among other things the Institute will explore is whether there's a way to store energy generated by windmills, rather than transmitting the energy directly into the power grid. According to Reporter Janet Okoben:
Fuel cells could be part of the power storage solution. And Northeast Ohio is emerging as a global leader in fuel cell production and research. You can learn more about the region's fuel cell initiatives at the Ohio Fuel Cells Coaltion's web site. Want to know more about the world of Green Energy? This is again excellent news. I think is so funny that I can remember when I was in college during the 70's (at Case Western Reserve Univ.), the hippie era was drawing to a close. The counter culture was not just about drugs, sex, and rock and roll. Many gave themselves to experiment with alternative life styles and technologies. The off the grid home and composting toilets and solar roofs and many many other experiments were tried. Now we are rethinking our energy systems as if this is a new concern. They in our recent past were ignored as radicals and ungrounded panic stricken fanatics. We still don't want to call them pioneers, they were after all rebelling against the established norm. They were in fact visionaries and like it or not we are standing on their shoulders. I still have copies of many of those magazine articles. It is cool to read over them and see what they saw. Now we are trying to make these things practical for everyone. Turn these ideas into money making enterprises and jobs. It is still exciting to me. Then I have to say something about the web site Green Energy TV (www.greenenergyTV.com). What a concept! This is what we need in Lorain to sell and educate. It is so sad that this whole energy thing is behind the closed doors of government, certain schools, and some involved businesses, all trying to protect and secure their interests. If you don't educate the locals, there is no market, no demand. You can't just sell us a service and give us a job. This greenenergyTV site is a great thing to inform and educate (but lose the bare behinds so my kids can view this too).
